The Town Hall of Beaumont-sur-Oise (Val-d'Oise) revealed this Saturday a sculpture of Marianne whose features are inspired by the Kurdish student Mahsa Amini, who died in Iran in September 2022, after being arrested by the morality police. The work was made by Ghass Rouzkhosh, a Franco-Iranian artist who lives in the commune, reports La Gazette Val d'Oise.

"Putting all women first"

Nearly 70 people, including elected officials and local personalities, gathered in the park of City Hall for the occasion. With this sculpture, Ghass wanted to honor women and their struggle. "The France has allowed me to achieve my dreams. The assassination of Mahsa Amini touched me a lot. My intention is to put all women first," said the artist who has lived in France since 1989.

For his part, Jean-Michel Aparicio, the mayor (DVG) of the city also praised this work and evoked "a symbol that goes beyond artistic achievement and that engages us politically. Marianne is shared by all citizens of the world."
