Emilia and Noah have continued to be the most popular baby names in 2022. As in the two previous years, they landed on a list of the most common first names in first place, as the Society for the German Language (GfdS) announced on Monday in Wiesbaden.

For the girls, Sophia/Sofia and Emma follow in the other ranks, for the boys Matt(h)eo/Math(h)eo and Leon. The lists are based on data from more than 750 registry offices, which, according to the GfdS, had submitted almost one million name entries.

Overall, the top ten most popular first names prove to be very consistent: new parents still like to give their children short or very short names – often with many vowels.
