Jean-Jacques Sempé, the creator of Petit Nicolas, a character scripted with Goscinny, who died last year, left behind a lesser-known work that goes far beyond the wanderings of his star schoolboy. Magazine covers, press cartoons in Indian ink, watercolor, color or black and white, humorous drawings, two hundred of his works are exhibited in Arles, as part of the first edition of the festival of drawings which presents 20 artists.

Frédéric Pajak, publisher, cartoonist and author is the artistic director of this new festival. For him, Sempé's work is timeless. He explains why in this video why, drawings in support.
