Dubai School Theatre Festival: Curtain Lifted

The third edition of the Dubai School Theatre Festival kicks off today at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library Theatre, with the participation of 10 schools in Dubai.

Organised by Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the festival is an ideal platform to discover student theatre talents, enabling them to showcase a diverse collection of tales stemming from the local community's origins, while highlighting its heritage, customs and traditions.

Dubai Culture confirmed that the festival comes as part of the Authority's endeavors aimed at supporting and refining small theatrical talents, upgrading the artistic and aesthetic taste of students and theater supervisors in the emirate's schools, and raising the level of activities of this creative art to continue producing theatrical works capable of keeping pace with societal developments.

The festival, organized by Dubai Culture, in cooperation with the Emirates Schools Establishment, will witness the presentation of 10 theatrical works, and will raise the curtain with a performance by Al Raya Secondary School for Girls, followed by Al Qayyim School (second episode), as well as um Suqeim School for Girls, while the other performances will be presented by Zayed Educational Complex in Al Barsha, Mohammed Bin Rashid School for Secondary Education (Boys), Omar Bin Al Khattab School for Basic Education (second cycle), and Al Lisaili Kindergarten and School (first, second and third cycles). Girls), Rashid Bin Saeed School (Third Cycle for Boys), Millennium School for Basic Education (Second Cycle), and Mohammed Noor School for Basic Education for Boys (Second Cycle), while the festival concludes its activities on January 12 with the closing ceremony and the announcement of the winners.

The jury, chaired by artist Marei Al Halyan and comprising artist and director Mohammed Saeed Al Salti and artist Hassan Yousef Al Balushi, will evaluate the theatrical performances that will compete for the festival's awards, including Best Integrated Theatrical Performance, Best Actor and Actress, Best Director, Best Theatrical Script, and others.

It is noteworthy that Dubai Culture was keen to design the activities of the Dubai School Theatre Festival to suit people of determination, to allow them to enjoy the aesthetics of the "Father of Arts" and the works presented by school students throughout the festival.

Celebration

The Dubai School Theatre Festival is a celebration of emerging talents that Dubai Culture is working to qualify and enable them to present their ideas differently on stage, in addition to contributing to instilling educational and moral values, raising the national spirit in the hearts of students, and motivating Dubai schools and educational institutions to benefit from performing arts, and employing them in transforming curricular materials into dramatic texts and visual scenes that help to consolidate them in the minds of students. Innovation in the field of cultural and creative industries, and raising their contributions by introducing and preserving the Emirati heritage, and enhancing its presence in the minds and souls of young people.
