Against the backdrop of Windsor Castle, thousands celebrated King Charles III and his wife Camilla at a star-studded pop concert on Sunday night. Among the names announced for the evening were Take That, as well as Lionel Richie and pop star Katy Perry. A special coronation choir of choir singers from all over the kingdom was also to perform – as well as dancers and musicians from the Royal Ballet and the Royal Opera House. In addition, the popular children's book character Winnie the Pooh was given a special role.

During the concert, which was hosted by British actor Hugh Bonneville ("Downton Abbey", "Paddington"), ten different locations in the United Kingdom were to be illuminated under the motto "Lighting Up The Nation german". The newly crowned royal couple themselves were also there live, as was heir to the throne Prince William and his family.

Half of the approximately 20,000 concert tickets were raffled off among the British population – and people who have rendered special services to the community were also invited. The concert was also broadcast on large screens in London and other cities in the United Kingdom.

However, this year's concert cannot keep up with the star-studded line-up of the Jubilee Concert in honour of Queen Elizabeth II, where Queen, Elton John, Alicia Keys and Rod Stewart performed in front of Buckingham Palace in London last year. According to reports, several requested stars – such as Ed Sheeran, Elton John or Kylie Minogue – have turned down the invitation because of other commitments.

Previously, thousands had celebrated the royal couple, who were crowned on Saturday, at the weekend. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak invited to a table in Downing Street, decorated with red, white and blue pennants, where even the First Lady of the United States, Jill Biden, could be seen. In the evening, the royal couple was beaming at a big concert at Windsor Castle.

Earlier, Charles and Camilla had wished everyone a lot of fun at the afternoon "Coronation Big Lunch". "Whether this is your first 'Big Lunch' or it's on the calendar every year, we send our best wishes to everyone who attends," Charles and Camilla wrote in a message on the royal family's Instagram channel. "We hope it will be a great event for everyone."

At the "Big Lunch", people meet for a joint banquet on the street. The street festivals have been celebrated since 2009 and are intended to promote contacts between neighbors and fight loneliness. It also collects for charitable purposes. For the coronation celebrations, a special recipe was even created and published in time by the palace: the "Coronation Quiche" with spinach, beans and tarragon.
