Charles III himself chose the music that resonated today in Westminster Abbey for his coronation. A ritual meticulous and punctuated by musical interludes which, failing to awaken the assembly, had the merit of revealing the tastes of the sovereign in terms of music.

In addition to the coronation anthem composed by the illustrious Andrew Lloyd Webber, Charles III took care to commission the eleven other scores required by the ceremony from as many renowned British composers. But unfortunately, we cannot say that he was particularly bold on this occasion.

Classic

In addition to this hymn entrusted to the creator of Cats, we will highlight the presence of a march written by Patrick Doyle, film composer to whom we owe the soundtracks of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Rebel, or Donnie Brasco. Moreover, there is little chance that the names of Judith Weir, Sarah Class, Nigel Hess, Tarik O'Regan or Roxanna Panufnik will tell you much.

It's a shame, we would have seen a hymn composed by Paul McCartney, the Kyrie chanted by Elton John, and finally some psalms whispered by Liam Gallagher. Come on, maybe for next time!
