The city of Boulogne-Billancourt has decided to honor rap? This is what some Internet users have been saying in recent days. The inhabitants of the city of Hauts-de-Seine and those who walked there may have noticed that some streets have changed their names. The famous Place Marcel Samba now displays the Rue Booba sign. Now there is also Dany Dan Street, the one named Kohndo...

"A great idea to bring street names up to date," said one user. "Enough to highlight the artists from the city and often forgotten," notes another. But has the city hall really made the choice to pay tribute to the rappers from Boulon? 20 Minutes explains.

FAKE OFF

This is not an initiative of the town hall, and these are not the official names of the streets. So you will not be able to (yet) meet in the street of "B2O".

It is actually an artistic installation made on the occasion of the release, this Wednesday, May 3, of "Boulogne, a school of French rap", a book by Nicolas Rogès which is published by JC Lattès. This book-investigation traces the history of hip-hop in Boulogne-Billancourt, and the influence of its artists.

"Boulbi" cradle of Parisian rap

If the first thing that comes to mind when we talk about the city is not rap, because it has never claimed to be the capital of French rap like Marseille, it has still seen many rappers grow up.

Readers will be able to discover nearly 1,000 anecdotes at the heart of the 350 pages of his investigation, from Booba to Salif who have a real attachment to "Boulbi".

"The idea was to summarize the spirit of the book in an artistic form," Mahir Guven, who initiated the installations, told Le Parisien. "It's not about vandalism but about making the walls talk, showing the influence that a lot of artists from a very small territory have had on French rap."
