Wild boars, roe deer and coypu are increasingly present in many places in the Pyrénées-Orientales even in urban areas in Perpignan (Pyrénées-Orientales). As a result, administrative beatings have been authorized by prefectural decree in 57 communes of the department for this month of May, reports Actu Perpignan. This list could go on.

Wild boars in cities

In recent months, wild boars in particular have been observed in cities. At the end of April, for example, four wild boars were seen in the parking lot of the Decathlon in Perpignan. According to Jean Cabassot, president of the association of wolf hunters of the Pyrénées-Orientales, they would move closer to urban areas because of climate change that would push them to fetch water in the city.

In detail, the prefectural decree authorizes administrative battues in Perpignan, but also in several other important cities of the department, such as Canet-en-Roussillon, Saint-Cyprien, Bompas or Pia. These beatings, ordered by the prefect after advice from the Federation of Hunters, are very supervised. In particular, hunters are forbidden to shoot within 150 meters of homes.
