A 79-year-old man was found dead in an elevator shaft in the basement of his building in Grigny (Essonne) on Wednesday. An investigation to identify the causes of death has been opened by the prosecutor's office of Evry-Courcouronnes, reports Le Parisien.

It was the president of the union council who alerted the firefighters. Contacted by the victim's daughter, worried about not having news of her father, she tried to go to his home. Without success. It was while trying to call him that she understood that the bell was not coming from the elevator, but from much further.

The elevator may not have been there

The emergency services arrived quickly on the scene but their intervention was in vain: the lifeless body of the victim was found at the bottom of the building. The septuagenarian could have fallen thinking of entering the elevator when he was not there. The device would therefore have been maintenance at the time of the tragedy.

The syndicate of co-ownership, him, assured that the elevators had been renovated recently. CCTV footage of the building should be analyzed to confirm the theory of the accident.
