A man died Thursday while trying to ski down from the Aiguille Verte, a peak that is located at 4,122 meters above sea level in the Mont Blanc massif, Haute-Savoie. The victim, who was with a friend, was on the Couturier corridor when he unscrewed for more than 500 meters, reports Le Dauphiné Libéré.

He died during his transfer to the hospital

The rescuers of the high mountain gendarmerie platoon (PGHM) of Chamonix were dispatched to the scene by helicopter. The skier was unconscious at the time of his care, says France 3 Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. He did not survive his injuries and was pronounced dead during his transfer to Annecy hospital.

Earlier in the day, another 52-year-old skier was unbalanced by an avalanche and fell at the level of the Vallée Blanche. He was hospitalized with multiple fractures.
