A citizen who actively prevented the child luring incident in Gwangju last month was selected as a "POSCO Heroes" and received benefits.

At around 2 p.m. on the 5nd of last month, Lee Chul (42) went out with his son to Ojeong Children's Park in Buk-gu, Gwangju, when he saw a suspicious man in a corner of the park.

Mr. A, a man in his 40s sitting in the gazebo, was drinking and watching children playing in the park, and with a face full of alcohol, he talked to Miss B (9) and made her pour alcohol.

Suspicious, Mr. Lee approached Miss B and asked who the uncle was, to which the child hesitated, "Uncle," but he did not believe it.

Mr. A then put the doll on the child and went out of the park, and Mr. Lee quietly chased them for about 500 meters.

Miss A soon stopped in front of a villa and dragged Miss B into the building, and a surprised Miss Lee interrupted her, asking, "Why are you taking a girl home?"

Mr. A claimed that he was "trying to give me a glass jar containing dolls and paper cranes that was in the house" and that he was "the child's uncle," but when Mr. Lee asked, "Give me the name of the child's grandmother" and "Do you know the address of the child's home?"

Eventually, Mr. Lee called the police, and Mr. A was arrested for an active crime on suspicion of luring a minor.

The police investigation revealed that Mr. A first saw the child in the park and lured the child with a doll while his parents were away.

The POSCO Cheongam Foundation announced on the 9th that it selected Mr. Lee, who saved a 4-year-old child who was almost abducted due to his active actions, as a "POSCO Heroes" and delivered a plaque and a scholarship for his children.

The POSCO Heroes Fellowship is a project that selects righteous people who have sacrificed themselves for the sake of national and social justice and supports the education of the righteous or the children of the righteous.

Mr. Lee said, "As a parent raising a child, I just did what I had to do, and I will continue to make efforts to create a neighborhood where children can play safely."
