Mr. A, an executive of the Gangwon branch of the Democratic Workers' Union construction union, who self-immolated in front of the court before the detention warrant review on the morning of the 1st, was taken to a burn hospital in Seoul for treatment, but died yesterday, a day later.

Mr. A had been accused of forcing union members to hire at a construction site, and during the examination conducted after his self-immolation, the court rejected the warrant, saying that he was charged with a crime but that he did not need to be arrested.

Mr. A pleaded guilty to the allegations of co-racketeering brought against him even before his self-immolation.

The construction union said that the current regime's suppression of labor unions triggered the incident and said that tomorrow it will hold a resolution meeting in front of the Yongsan presidential office to condemn the regime.

[Kim Hyun-woong/General Secretary of the Gangwon Construction Branch of the construction union: Why are you rightfully calling for bargaining with the labor union, demanding hiring, and saying that we should remove all illegal safety sites as joint racketeering criminals.]

In particular, since the end of last year, 13 seizures and searches have been carried out against construction unions, and more than 950 members of the union have been investigated.

A press conference was also held in front of the Gangwon Police Agency, which investigated Mr. A and others.

The MDP also called for an apology from President Yoon Seok-yeol and the resignation of Minister of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport Won Hee-ryong.

[Yang Kyung-so/MDP Chairman: The regime's repression led to a tragedy in which construction workers self-immolated. President Yoon Seok-yeol is solely responsible.]

On the 10th, he announced that he would start an all-out struggle to coincide with the first anniversary of President Yun's inauguration.
