Super Mario Bros is the first film of the year to exceed the $1 billion mark globally. The American specialized press reports the record of the title Illumination and Universal, adaptation of Nintendo's cult video game, but also in Italy the film leads the ranking of Monday first of May at the box office, a day that saw the takings rise to almost 2.4 million euros (a good increase compared to a normal weekday, although down 20% compared to the pre-pandemic three-year period).

  • With the 40 million dollars grossed over the weekend, "Super Mario - the movie" reaches 490 million dollars in North America to which must be added 532 million dollars internationally.
    In times of pandemic, this is only the fifth film to enter the $1 billion "club," after "Spider-Man: No Way Home," "Top Gun: Maverick," "Jurassic World Dominion" and "Avatar: The Way of Water."

    The film hit theaters on April 5 and hit $204 million in its first five days, marking the biggest opening weekend of the year and the second-largest debut ever for an animated film.
    In second place at the US box office of the weekend is "Evil Dead Rise" ("The House: The Awakening of Evil"), with 12.2 million dollars, for a total on the domestic market of 44.4 million. In third place "Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret" written and directed by Kelly Fremon Craig, a $1970.6 million film adaptation of Judy Blume's 8 novel of the same name.
