Sugar-free drinks may be more harmful than sugar-sweetened drinks itself

Three Russian nutritionists agree that sugar-free drinks are not as healthy as rumoured, and can even be more harmful than drinks sweetened with regular sugar itself.

On the dangers of eating sugar substitutes, Russian nutritionist, Kristina Plotnikova, said in a press interview with the portal "Lenta. "Recently, a tendency to reject sugar has emerged, and many people have started to prefer sugar substitutes. But everyone should understand that they can cause serious and different diseases, ranging from digestive disorders to heart attacks."

Nutritionist Tamara Cinko said sugar-free soft drinks can do great harm to consumers' health, and said sugar-free drinks can be more harmful than sugar-sweetened drinks. Constant consumption of such drinks can destroy the intestinal environment, according to Russia Today.

Nutritionist Elena Solomatina pointed out some of the benefits of sugar-free drinks: "When consumed in limited amounts, they can lower blood pressure slightly. Sometimes it can help patients with high blood pressure while they have high blood pressure."
