The president of the Autonomous Province of Trento, Maurizio Fugatti, signed last night a new abatement order for the bear Jj4, captured by foresters and locked up in the Casteller enclosure after attacking and killing Andrea Papi, 26, in the woods of Caldes, in Val di Sole. The first abatement order was suspended by the TAR of Trento after the appeal of animal welfare associations, in any case nothing will be done before May 11 when the TAR will pronounce.

In the provision it is believed that "as a precaution for health and public safety, it is reasonable to kill the animal, instead of accepting even the slightest risk that it may again come into contact with a person, even in the context of all operational phases aimed at the possible transfer of the same to another place". "It should be considered that to date - reads the ordinance - the Province does not have a concrete alternative prefigured in the precautionary decrees of the president of the Trga of Trento, namely that of a possible transfer of the Jj4 bear to another site outside the Trentino Alto Adige / Südtirol Region, even abroad, which inevitably offers high standards for the needs of security and safety for its visitors, as well as for operators and for those who should proceed with the transfer operations"

Meanwhile, with regard to the management of bears in Trentino, during the Question time in the Chamber, responding to the deputy of FdI, Alessia Ambrosi (a question also signed by Alessandro Urzì and Andrea De Bertoldi), Minister Pichetto Fratin confirmed the government's commitment to guarantee the safety of citizens: "By mid-May complete reconnaissance of the number of specimens, We will examine the relocation of plantigrades."

The minister also intervened on the anti-bear spray: "the Ministry and Ispra have expressed a favorable opinion on the natural principle anti-aggression spray limited to surveillance personnel in the areas of presence of the brown bear".

Pichetto had pledged to ensure the transfer of the bear, an epilogue that he said he preferred over culling.
