The Toulouse prosecutor's office said Monday that it had opened an investigation for alleged illegal use of an official file by the hierarchy of the municipal police of Saint-Jory, a commune north of Toulouse. Any irregular consultation concerns the criminal record processing file (TAJ) to find out about several municipal police officers in the municipality.

The opening of this investigation had been requested earlier in the morning by the Force Ouvrière (FO) union. His request followed an article in the regional daily La Dépêche du Midion this possible illegal use of the file in 2022, before a decision on the renewal of the authorization to carry weapons for these agents.

FO "outraged by such acts"

In its statement, FO-services publics said it was "outraged by such actions on the part of agents who are both hierarchical managers and custodians of public authority". "Municipal police officers carry out their duties in a particularly difficult context, particularly because of the perpetual expansion of their missions. As the country's third security force, their prerogatives and level of responsibility are still too little recognized," the union continues.

"That is why we cannot accept that the profession is sullied by such actions, however marginal they may be," he concludes.
