Innovative technology to treat wounds of diabetics and the elderly

Chronic wounds are a problem for diabetics and the elderly, and if complications occur, they can lead to amputation.

Researchers at Chalmers University in Sweden and Freiberg University in Germany have come up with a new technique that helps wounds heal three times faster through electrical stimulation.

Researcher Maria Asplund, assistant professor of the Department of Bioelectronics at Chalmers University, said: "This discovery could be a game-changer for diabetics, the elderly and others with health problems that prevent their wounds from healing normally.

During the study, the researchers developed a biochip on which they implanted skin cells and then made wounds in it, and then stimulated the wounds with an electric current, and it was found that the wounds that were exposed to the electric current recovered three times faster compared to those that recovered naturally.
