The Fitz Roy is a tribute to the mountain of the same name in Patagonia. Nature lovers dream of hiking in the wonderland on the border between Argentina and Chile. The Tehuelche Indians refer to the 3406-meter-high Fitz Roy as a "smoking mountain". The first ascent was made by the Frenchmen Lionel Terray and Guido Magnone in 1952.

So a hiking boot?

Yes! Although Veja is considered a lifestyle brand, the company released a hiking boot for the first time on February 16. The Fitz Roy is a technical hiking shoe, sturdy and stable thanks to its multidirectional outsole and protective rock plate. Its Trek Shell upper made of 100 percent recycled polyester makes the shoe more resistant and waterproof. It is treated with a PFC-free, water-repellent agent. There is also a padded, comfortable tongue, an elastic band to hold the laces so you don't get tangled, and a wide insole that adapts to all foot shapes.

And after hiking?

It is advisable to take out the cleanliness soles for airing, store the shoes in a dry place away from heat sources. For cleaning, use lukewarm soapy water and a brush. Then air dry.

Do you now wear trekking and hiking boots in everyday life?

Yes. Technical or high-performance sneakers are in vogue this season. This refers to models that have a certain function or at least look like it. For example, sneakers that are suitable for jogging, tennis or basketball. Or even designs that are reminiscent of trekking shoes due to their robust soles.

What can Veja do?

Sustainability. Veja is one of the shoe manufacturers that attaches great importance to environmental awareness. Socially and ecologically committed, friends Sébastien Kopp and François-Ghislain Morillion founded the brand in 2005. Before the launch, they studied commodity prices and familiarized themselves with the manufacturing process of sneakers. It was on this long journey that the name was born: Veja means "look" in Portuguese. The label tries to do this by ensuring fair working conditions and paying raw material prices that are higher than the average price. The raw materials come from Brazil: organic cotton, natural rubber and vegetable-tanned leather. In this way, you also help organic farmers.
