It is a real drama of the road that was knotted this Sunday morning in Ploufragan, near Saint-Brieuc (Côtes-d'Armor). While driving on Rue du Pont-Noir shortly before noon, a motorist would have first hit a group of cyclists who were coming in front of him. According to the first witnesses, it was his Peugeot 308 that had left its lane, without knowing why. Two cyclists aged 49 and 63 were slightly injured. The driver of the Peugeot then hit a Renault Laguna that was driving behind the group of cyclists. "Under the effect of the shock, the car passed over this second vehicle and ended up on the roof," explains the prefecture of Côtes-d'Armor. It then collided with a third Opel Zafira car, propelling it into the ditch. On this axis, the speed limit is 80 km/h.

Two young men killed

The toll of the collision is very heavy. Aged 23, the driver of the Peugeot 308 died in the accident. A 35-year-old man who was driving the Opel Zafira was also killed. Two occupants of the 308, aged 19 and 27, were seriously injured and transported in absolute emergency. The driver of the Laguna was seriously injured and taken to the hospital of Saint-Brieuc.

An investigation was opened and entrusted to the police of Saint-Brieuc. A forensic operation was immediately carried out at the scene of the accident. "Samples were taken from all those involved for the purpose of searching for alcohol and possible toxics," says the prefecture. Witnesses, including cyclists, are interviewed.
