It was a race against time to save the 71-year-old woman trapped under the rubble of the house that collapsed shortly before noon in Montecarlo in the province of Lucca due to an explosion probably due to a gas leak. The woman, with whom the firefighters had already established contact while the rubble was still in place, was rescued after a few hours and was transported to hospital in code red, while still looking for her 70-year-old husband who does not respond to calls.

Previously, five other people had been pulled from what remains of the collapsed building: a woman, her two children, aged 12 and 9 and another man, all not seriously injured. A 47-year-old instead was taken to the Pisan hospital of Cisanello with the Pegaso helicopter rescue in red code.

The search continues to find her husband. A canine unit was also brought to the scene. In the complex rescue operations, 45 firefighters from Lucca and other commands in the area were employed.
