The "Madonna che scappa" is a unique traditional held every year in Sulmona. A ritual, organized by the Confraternity of Santa Maria di Loreto, which takes place in Piazza Garibaldi and signifies the meeting between the Madonna and the risen Christ. The statue dressed in mourning is transformed, during the race, abandoning the dark mantle and shining bright green. Meanwhile, even the doves are released in flight under the gaze of those participating in the event. This year one of the members of the quadrille fell, but the other members of the brotherhood managed to continue the race without compromising the statue.
