Beware of time overruns. In April, the municipal police of Lyon will be equipped with a new device to control more quickly and more effectively paid parking on public roads. Its name: ANPR for "automatically reading license plates".

Two radar cars, equipped with the system, will crisscross the streets of Lyon to detect all vehicles that will not be equipped with a parking ticket. Or those whose time ticket will expire. Concretely, these two vehicles "will make proposals for verbalization, then these pre-verbalizations will be checked and validated by the agents in last control," says the municipality.

Free up time to verbalize annoying parking

Currently, only 20% of motorists play the game and pay for surface parking, says the city of Lyon. "A better compliance rate would lead to better turnover, more free spaces, less time to search for spaces and the possibility for all users to park closer to their destination," she says. But that's not all.

Too busy fining offenders, sworn officers can no longer devote themselves to controlling "annoying" parking on sidewalks, bike paths, pedestrian crossings or delivery areas, regrets the city of Lyon. "Thus, by freeing up control time related to paid parking, this tool will allow officers to spend more time on annoying and illegal parking," she concludes.
