The death toll from the Cutro shipwreck rises to 93. In the night, almost 40 days after the tragedy, the body of a young man, aged between 20 and 25, was found in an advanced state of decomposition.
The body was spotted about 60 miles off the Italian coast by a military unit, a U.S. aircraft carrier, sailing in the Ionian Sea. As soon as the report arrived, a patrol boat of the Coast Guard of the Port Authority of Crotone went to recover the body. It remains to be established whether the corpse is among those of the missing indicated by the survivors of the shipwreck (in which case eight would remain yet to be found) or among those reported by family members who knew that it was on board the gulet shipwrecked in Cutro.
The Scientific Police of Crotone will perform DNA comparisons for identification.
