They were caught red-handed on Tuesday in Haute-Loire, while they were committing a new burglary and stealing "jewelry, gold coins" and an Audi Q5. Two Saint-Etienne residents, aged 51 and 57, suspected of having committed burglaries at the homes of professional football players were arrested and judged in immediate appearance in Lyon on Friday for "aggravated theft and concealment in organized gang, and use of false license plates," police said.

During the search of the home of one of the two suspects, a "list of personal addresses of twelve professional players [...] playing in various French or even foreign clubs" was discovered.

Burglaries that took place between December 2022 and February 2023

Without naming the players targeted, the Rhône Departmental Directorate of Public Security (DDSP) said the burglaries took place between December 2022 and February 2023, when they "were on the move or gathering with their club". According to Le Progrès, the homes of OL players Thiago Mendes, Jeff Reine-Adelaïde and Karl Toko-Ekambi were burgled during this period.

Police did not specify the judicial fate of the two men on Friday. The Lyon prosecutor's office was not immediately reachable.
