New trick to read deleted messages on WhatsApp

Specialists in iOs and Android programs recently discovered that there are simple ways to detect deleted chats by accident, as MailOnline details clever tricks to recover deleted WhatsApp messages stored on your phone using backup features.

If you're still looking for a way to recover a deleted WhatsApp message someone sent you, there are a bunch of apps designed to do the job.

Anyone can access deleted messages through a third-party app called Notification History which can be downloaded through the Google Play Store.

However, there are limitations to these apps where only messages that have generated a notification on the device, which have been seen or interacted with, can be retrieved.

However, if you choose to download specialized apps, especially from Google Play as many apps contain malware that can infect the device, act carefully.

These apps are often very difficult to use and are likely to be full of ads if you don't choose the paid version.

First, before deleting WhatsApp, all app users should make sure that their WhatsApp messages are backed up on iCloud so they can be restored. The next step will be to delete WhatsApp from your phone and reinstall it again using the App Store. Once the app is installed, sign back in to your account.

Now all you have to do is to wait for the option that will appear displayed to restore the previously backed up messages. When you select this option, all WhatsApp messages will be recovered, even if they have been deleted.

Also those with Android 11 and later, which is supported by the latest devices, can also know that deleted messages can also be recovered on their phones.

The notification log feature keeps a record of every WhatsApp message stored on your phone.

You will need to go to "Settings" on your smartphone and choose "Apps & notifications". Next, you'll need to go to "Notifications" and find the "Notification History" option and press the button next to "Use Notification History."

When this is complete, the menu will show a history of all notifications the device receives, which will include text messages in WhatsApp before they are deleted.

If at any time you want to go back to deleted messages, all you have to do is go back to this section of your settings.

An alternative way for Android users is to recover WhatsApp messages through a database.

To get started, launch the file browser on your device.

Open the "WhatsApp" folder and go to "Database" where all the backup files saved locally for the application will be.

Then you will need to long press on the file "msgstore.db.crypt12" to select it, and then press "Edit Name". Change its name to "msgstore backup.db.crypt12" to ensure that the file is not overwritten.

Next, you'll need to choose the latest backup file and change its name to "msgstore.db.crypt12".

Once done, open Google Drive on your smartphone and choose the menu option with three vertical lines in the upper right corner.

Click on "Backups" and clear the "WhatsApp" backup.

You will then need to delete WhatsApp and then install it again – you will then be prompted to restore WhatsApp from a local backup during installation as you no longer have a cloud backup.

When prompted, choose the "msgstore.db.crypt12" file and click "Restore".
