They turned themselves in to police on Thursday morning and were immediately taken into custody. Aged 16, the two teenagers are suspected of having knocked over an 84-year-old woman on Wednesday, March 22 while they were riding a scooter in the popular district of Pontanézen, in Brest (Finistère). The victim was dead.
According to the police, the two teenagers were riding a two-wheeler "big displacement" when they fatally knocked over the octogenarian. "The rescue team arrived on the scene could only note the death of the victim at 17:15 p.m.," said the public prosecutor Camille Miansoni. Heard Wednesday evening, several witnesses said that the motorcycle mounted by the two young people "was traveling at very high speed". "The old lady was crossing the roadway on the protected crossing. She was thrown by the impact and the motorcycle continued on its way without stopping, "said the prosecutor of Brest.
The prosecutor confirmed the opening of an investigation conducted by the departmental security which "will have to determine the precise circumstances of the accident and the possible respective role of each of the defendants". The two suspects would be "unfavorably known" to the police, according to Le Télégramme.
