38 euros: this is what people caught feeding stray cats risk in Songeons, a town located about twenty kilometers from Beauvais (Oise). A municipal decree to this effect was taken on March 15, reports Actu Oise.

In the document, the town hall evokes an "upsurge of wandering cats" and "the need (...) to keep the communal territory (...) in a good state of cleanliness and health". Thus, the decree states that it is "expressly forbidden to let cats wander on the public highway alone and without master or guardian".

"An annoyance for the neighborhood"

It is also forbidden to attract felines "by throwing food at them in all public places" but also private when "this practice may constitute a nuisance to the neighborhood or attract rodents". Anyone caught red-handed will be punished with a 1st class ticket, i.e. 38 euros.
