There were doubts, but the protocol will be respected. The red carpet will be rolled out for King Charles III of England during his visit to France from Sunday, despite the call of strikers against the pension reform not to do so, assured Thursday the National Furniture. "The Mobilier national is in charge of rolling out this famous red carpet and non-striking agents, who represent a vast majority of our workforce, will take care of it," Loïc Turpin, director of communication at this public institution, told AFP.

The man was reacting to a statement from the CGT union the day before: "We will not provide furniture, red carpets or flags." The Mobilier National, attached to the Ministry of Culture, creates and restores tens of thousands of pieces of furniture and objects for public buildings.

24 striking agents out of a workforce of 420 employees

The red carpet that welcomes foreign leaders is one of them. In its call for the "withdrawal" of the pension reform launched by Emmanuel Macron's government, the CGT considered that the civil servants of the Mobilier national were particularly concerned.

She castigated the harmful effects of the reform for "colleagues who end up worn out at work by repetitive gestures, hours of transport, burn-out and other occupational diseases". "We are fully aware that at the end of the week the King of England will be welcomed in France and that our services are in demand. (...) It will be without us! " the union added.

The management counted Thursday 24 agents on strike out of a total of 420, which made it possible to prepare the arrival of the sovereign under normal conditions. "The red carpet is delivered. And the trade unions assured us that there would be no obstacle to the work of non-striking agents," explained Loïc.
