In a serious rear-end collision on the highway 7 near Göttingen, a mother and her eight-year-old son were killed. The three-year-old daughter of the 28-year-old woman, who sat in the small car, was seriously injured, but not life-threatening, as a police spokeswoman said on Saturday.

According to previous findings, the small car of the family from southern Hesse drove about 500 meters behind the junction Lutterberg on the right lane from still unexplained cause on a truck standing at the end of a traffic jam. In the impact, the mother and the boy died.

The A7 was completely closed according to police information from the junction Lutterberg in the direction of Hanover for hours. The traffic jammed near Hannoversch Münden in the meantime on several kilometers in length. The police advised to drive around the section of the route widely.

In the late afternoon, the closure was finally lifted, the traffic rolled again – but still with obstacles: The reason was another accident on the highway 7 near the triangle Drammetal. There, a truck had caught fire around 0.15 a.m. and was completely burned out. The cause of the fire was initially unclear, and it was not yet clear whether and how badly the roadway was damaged.

According to initial estimates by the police, the property damage amounted to about 200,000 euros.
