Nearly half of the respondents slept less than 8 hours per night on average

According to reports, the data of the "Report" is based on the 2022 China Social Mentality Survey, and the sample involves residents aged 30 to 18 in 70 provinces (municipalities directly under the central government and autonomous regions).

Survey data show that in terms of the sleep status of different groups, people's sleep duration needs to be increased, and sleep quality self-assessment needs to be improved.

In 2022, respondents slept an average of 7.40 hours per night, nearly half of the respondents slept less than 8 hours (47.55%) per night, and 16.79% slept less than 7 hours per night.

The average self-rated sleep quality of the respondents was 3.11, the majority of the respondents rated their sleep quality as "good" or "very good" (accounting for 89.60%), 22.60% of the respondents rated their sleep quality as "very good", and 10.40% of the respondents rated their sleep quality as "bad" or "very poor".

In addition, the survey showed that with the increase of age, the overall sleep duration of respondents showed a trend of shortening, and the self-rating of sleep quality showed a downward trend. There was little difference in average sleep length per night between male and female respondents, but male respondents rated their sleep quality slightly higher than female respondents.

It is worth noting that the sleep duration of the graduate school and above group is short, and the self-assessment of sleep quality is low, of which 25.71% of the respondents self-rated their sleep quality as "not good".

The student group slept the most

The study found that the student group slept the longest, with an average of 7.74 hours of sleep per night, and self-rated sleep quality as better than other occupational groups.

There were no statistically significant differences in sleep duration and sleep quality self-ratings between occupational groups, except for student groups; The higher the job position, the shorter the sleep duration, and the more senior managers sleep less than the managed and freelancers. In addition, the self-evaluation of sleep quality of managers and freelancers is better than that of senior managers.

In addition, the average actual sleep duration of Generation Z youth (born in 1995-2009) in the past month was 7.68 hours, and the self-rated sleep quality of Generation Z group was significantly better than that of other generation groups.
