After the floods in southeastern Turkey, at least 18 deaths are to be mourned after the discovery of further bodies, according to official figures. Rescue workers would find in their search operations, but also still missing in the particularly affected cities of Sanliurfa and Adiyaman, said the Turkish Minister of the interior, Süleyman Soylu on Friday. According to him, 16 of the dead were recovered in Sanliurfa. The water in the city is polluted and not drinkable, Soylu told reporters in Sanliurfa.

In the capital of the province of the same name, bordering Syria, residential buildings such as clinics were temporarily flooded after heavy rainfall at the weekend, schools remained closed. In the neighboring province of Adiyaman, two people were killed in the floods.

Only five weeks after the earthquakes, the floods had flooded an already disaster-stricken region, where thousands of people live in temporary shelters such as tents. Local media see the reasons for the severe flooding mainly in the poor infrastructure and buildings along the river beds. For the weekend, authorities warned of further heavy rain.
