Two men were arrested in Valence (Drôme) late Tuesday afternoon. They are suspected of being the authors of several thefts by ruse targeting owners of mobile phones, says Le Dauphiné Libéré. The individuals were taken into custody after their arrest. They would have admitted the charges against them.

The investigators were able to locate them thanks to several elements. In particular, the police were able to rely on the report of the suspects provided by one of the victims of theft. The two men were also confused by images filmed by the municipal network of CCTV cameras.

The suspects reportedly spotted a passerby using his smartphone several times before one of them solicited the person in question to divert his attention. The second individual would then have taken advantage of the situation each time to steal the device. Released after their police custody, the defendants will be the subject of an appearance on prior admission of guilt (CRPC) scheduled for October 2023.
