It is the municipal deputy for security of Vallauris, near Antibes (Alpes-Maritimes), who revealed it on Facebook this Thursday: four municipal police officers of the town were "injured on duty" Wednesday night "after being cowardly assaulted by twenty individuals". According to Dominique Bruzzisi, the officers were attacked by the customers of a bar while they were arresting a "driver, heavily alcoholic" in the center of the town.
Contacted by 20 Minutes, the Grasse prosecutor's office confirms that an "investigation is underway" and that "four people were heard this [Thursday] morning" in this case.
'All possible violence'
The prosecutor's office specifies that "police custody has been lifted" at this stage but that they will resume after several checks. The judiciary is notably "pending the hearing of three additional people" and "municipal police", but also their "forensic examination". It also intends to rely on "the exploitation of pedestrian cameras and video surveillance".
According to Dominique Bruzzisi's account, "the twenty individuals, including the father and brother of the driver", all customers of a bar, "tried to free [him] using all possible violence: kicks, punches, projectile throwing". "Despite an unfavorable balance of power, four people were still arrested before the arrival of three crews of the National Police," he said.
The assistant announced that several complaints had been filed. In particular for "assault, death threats, rebellion" but also "for the theft of equipment from one of the agents" and "for attempted theft of a firearm," he detailed.
