Dubai Calligraphy Biennial. The City of Creativity celebrates the masterpieces of letters

Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) has revealed the start of preparations for the Dubai Calligraphy Biennial, which will be held from the first to the 31st of October, with the participation of a group of calligraphy creators and artists from around the world, and the Biennale comes in celebration of the remarkable successes achieved by the Dubai International Exhibition for Arabic Calligraphy over the course of 10 sessions, and aims to highlight the importance of calligraphy, as an expressive and aesthetic tool that embodies creativity.

The Dubai Calligraphy Biennial is a new creative platform through which the Authority attracts calligraphy lovers and masterpieces, opens up horizons for talents from around the world, and enables them to showcase their work and experiences in various calligraphy arts, which is in line with Dubai's cultural vision aimed at consolidating the emirate's position as a global center for culture, an incubator for creativity, and a thrift for talent.

The inaugural edition of the Dubai Calligraphy Biennial highlights the art of Arabic calligraphy from different cultures, reflecting the vibrancy of traditional and contemporary calligraphy written in Arabic and other languages, as well as its diversity and artistic aesthetics, as well as the characteristics of typographical, digital art and decoration. The Biennale will also showcase a collection of qualitative creative works, highlighting the aesthetics of jewelry and product design, public art, sculptures and textiles, as well as a variety of art shows and other categories that highlight the accuracy of calligraphy, as well as a variety of artistic and educational workshops, presented by a number of internationally renowned artists and calligraphers.

Dr. Saeed Mubarak bin Kharbash, Executive Director of the Arts and Literature Sector at Dubai Culture, stressed that the Dubai Calligraphy Biennial is a global platform for discovering human interaction with calligraphy and stimulating cultural exchange between communities.

Bin Kharbash said: "The Dubai Calligraphy Biennial establishes a global art event that brings together a group of calligraphy creators and artists from around the world, and works to open wide horizons for them, through its rich program of art exhibitions, lectures and workshops that highlight the different ways of interacting with this art, its aesthetics and various designs, as well as its contribution to encouraging emerging talents, and providing a new educational and educational environment for them." He described the Biennale as a "milestone" in the history of Dubai's interest in calligraphy, as it is the culmination of 10 successful editions of the Dubai International Calligraphy Exhibition, pointing to the importance of the role played by the Biennale in supporting cultural tourism in Dubai, and expanding its scope as one of the tributaries of the creative economy that the emirate aspires to be its global capital by 2026.

Bin Kharbash pointed to the importance of enhancing the climate of creativity in Dubai, and encouraging the active participation of the artistic community to support the cultural and creative industries. He added: "Dubai Culture seeks to raise the level of interest in calligraphy and enhance its presence and attractiveness, by providing opportunities to learn its origins and philosophy, in order to achieve its commitments aimed at creating a sustainable creative environment that enables calligraphers and artists to promote, protect and develop calligraphy."

Dubai Culture has invited all creatives, locally, regionally and globally, to participate in the Dubai Calligraphy Biennial, where it will start receiving applications and prototypes as of today, March 16, 16, while May 2023, <> will be the deadline for receiving applications to participate in the Biennial, and a specialized committee that includes a group of curators and experts will sort works and select qualified artists and creators to participate in the next Biennial session, which will be held in a number of heritage and cultural sites of Dubai Culture. In addition to the branches of Dubai Public Libraries, and a number of art exhibitions held in the Emirate of Dubai.
