In response to an incident in which a teacher was slashed by a high school student who broke into a junior high school in Toda City, Saitama Prefecture, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) has decided to strengthen support, such as raising the subsidy rate from next fiscal year, so that schools can install security cameras and an auto-lock system that locks school gates.

On January 1, a male high school student was arrested at a junior high school in Toda City for breaking into a classroom and slashing a male teacher with a knife who stopped him.

In response to this, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) has decided to strengthen support from next fiscal year so that each school can install security cameras, an auto-lock system that locks school gates, and a device for notifying the police in order to strengthen safety measures.

Specifically, we plan to raise the government's subsidy rate for the development of these systems and expand the scope of subsidies so that even small-scale maintenance can receive subsidies.

In addition, we will request that each school review the "Crisis Management Manual" to ensure that measures against intrusion of suspicious persons are sufficient.

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) will soon notify boards of education nationwide about these policies.
