He broke into a bank to steal one dollar..« The reason is stranger than theft»

A sixty-year-old man broke into the management of a local bank in a robbery, but the staff was shocked that he asked for only one dollar, and he also asked to report to the police as soon as possible to arrest him, because he wanted to go to jail.

Fox News reported that Donald Santacross, 65, walked into Wells Fargo Bank in Salt Lake City, Utah, confidently heading toward the bank teller and handing him a "threatening" note: "Please excuse me for doing this, but this is a robbery. Please give me $1. Thank you."

After receiving the dollar, the staff asked him to leave, but decided to stay in place and wait for the authorities in the bank lobby.

The station report said Donald made comments to those present about the delay of the police, how long it took them to arrive and that those at the bank were "lucky that he did not have a weapon", according to the affidavit of the arrest. The comments prompted the bank's manager and staff to hide safely in the back room.

When the police arrived, the "thief" handed over the stolen dollar, confessed to robbing the bank, said he wanted to go to jail, and was arrested and later charged with theft.

The police report did not say whether he would be sent to jail, but the man threatened that if released, he would continue to rob banks until he was imprisoned at a federal facility.

No injuries were reported following the robbery. The man was also released, having previously been arrested last week for driving recklessly with an expired driver's license. The report did not say whether he did so deliberately to be arrested or if it was a coincidence.
