On March 14th, the "High Energy Synchrotron Radiation Source" (HEPS), a major national science and technology infrastructure during the "13th Five-Year Plan" period that is being promoted by the Institute of High Energy Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (HEPS), achieved another important milestone—its linear The accelerator emits beams with full energy and successfully accelerates the first electron beam.

The overall shape of this large scientific installation resembles a giant magnifying glass. It is the core device of the Huairou Science City jointly built by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Beijing.

Not long ago, the whole line of HEPS intensifier was completed, the installation of storage ring tunnel equipment was started, and the trial installation of the front-end area of the beamline station was started, and the scientific research equipment installation stage was fully entered.

The full-energy beam output of the linear accelerator this time marks that HEPS construction has entered the parallel stage of scientific research equipment installation and beam adjustment.

It is understood that HEPS, a large scientific facility, started construction in June 2019, with a planned construction period of 6.5 years.

After completion, HEPS will be one of the fourth-generation synchrotron radiation sources with the highest brightness in the world, and it will also be the first high-energy synchrotron radiation source in China. It is of great significance to develop strategies and original innovation capabilities in frontier basic science and high-tech fields.
