The journalist and cultural promoter from Tenerife Martín Rivero, winner of the Canary Islands Prize for Communication 2004 along with his brother Carmelo, deputy editor at Diario de Avisos, has died in Madrid at the age of 68, the newspaper has advanced.

A cultural promoter since the time of the transition, in what is now the CajaCanarias Foundation, he directed with his brother the newspaper La Gaceta de Canarias founded in 1989, and was a correspondent for the magazine Triunfo in the late Franco regime and for newspapers such as the Diario de Barcelona and El País.

Martín Rivero has also been part of different media such as La Tarde, Diario de Avisos, El Día and Radio Club Tenerife, and together with his brother he is the author of books such as 'Valdano. Football dreams', 'Iñaki Gabilondo. Citizen in Gran Vía' and 'Los Sabandeños. The song of the Fortunate'.
