The European Parliament, meeting in plenary session in Strasbourg, approved the directive proposed by the European Commission for the energy efficiency of buildings. There were 343 votes in favour, 216 against and 78 abstentions. It is immediately controversy for the possibilities of effective implementation in our country of this ambitious plan that is now called the "Green Houses" directive.

"It's unsatisfactory for Italy. Even in the Trilogue, as we have done until today, we will continue to fight in defense of the national interest". This was stated by the Minister of the Environment and Energy Security Gilberto Pichetto Fratin. "We do not question - explains the minister - the environmental objectives of decarbonization and redevelopment of the building stock, which remain fundamental. However, this text lacks a serious consideration of the Italian context, different from that of other European countries for historical reasons, of geographical conformation, as well as of a deep-rooted vision of the home as a 'safe haven' for Italian families". "Identifying a share of building stock exempt for reasons of economic feasibility - continues Pichetto - was a necessary and necessary step, but the time objectives, especially for existing residential buildings, are currently unattainable for our country".
