Lady Gaga had said that she did not have time to prepare a performance... The star was too busy filming Joker: Madness for Two. Yet on Sunday, she was on stage at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles to give an unvarnished performance to the Oscar audience. A deception? No, a pleasant surprise according to the producers of the Academy.

This is what Ricky Kirshner explained to The Hollywood Reporter. The executive producer recounted how Lady Gaga's performance was secured at the last minute: "Honestly, and this is not to congratulate us, because we are very bad at it, but we have built a relationship of trust with Lady Gaga over the years. I did the Super Bowl with her and Glenn (Weiss) did many awards shows with her, including the performance of "Shallow" at the Oscars (2019). She really wanted to do something. Honestly, she is shooting her film, there was no deception. »

"And on Thursday, at four and a few o'clock, we got a text saying she wanted to try something, she didn't have time to put on a big performance, but she wanted it to be raw and people to see the real Gaga, and, with a voice like that, you don't need much more than that."

Gross benefit

Lady Gaga appeared on stage without makeup, in black T-shirt and ripped jeans, to sing Hold My Hand, title from the blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick. Before embarking, she explained her approach.

"(This song) is deeply personal to me, and I think we all need each other. We need a lot of love to get through this life," she shared, in her outfit that had nothing to do with the Versace dress she wore to walk the red carpet when she arrived at the ceremony.

The movie Joker: Madness for Two will be released on October 2, 2024.
