A dramatic accident occurred in the afternoon of Monday in the town of Barby, near Chambéry (Savoie). While driving on a departmental road, a dump truck hit a car and went off the road before falling, reports France 3 Auvergne Rhône-Alpes. The driver would have lost control of his vehicle due to a mechanical problem, according to France Bleu Pays de Savoie.

The truck ended up in a ravine ten meters below. In his fall, he mowed down landscapers who were working on an earthmoving site. One of them died instantly. Several of his colleagues were injured. They were in shock after the accident.

The driver of the dump truck was seriously injured. The motorist he hit before leaving the road was slightly hit. All victims were treated and taken to hospital. For the time being, the precise circumstances of the events have not yet been determined. An investigation has been opened.
