Champagne is the new red: For the first time in 62 years, the stars walked not over a red, but a champagne-colored carpet. The Academy was advised on this decision by "Vogue" editor Lisa Love and the creative director of the Met Gala, Raúl Àvila.

You could also just call it sand colors, so the two. But now it's the Academy Awards, so: champagne. This in no way takes away the prestige of the usual scarlet (that of the color of the rich and powerful) – after all, the carpet was covered with a red tent.

Model Winnie Harlow immediately expressed her joy at the decision: "On neutral carpet, the colors of the outfits look much better!" Her robe: she wore a tea-green, slim dress with playful details.

Little extraordinary

As every year, certain actresses and filmmakers were represented by certain brands: Michelle Yeoh from Armani Privé, Ana de Armas from Louis Vuitton, Florence Pugh from Valentino.

Almost no one wore extraordinary dresses – only the Nigerian singer Tems, nominated for "Best Original Song" for the film "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever", who appeared in a cloud of a dress by Lever Couture. The "Wakanda" actress Danai Gurira, who presented an award that evening, appeared in a black dress with a wide train, but attracted attention mainly because of her actual tower hairstyle.

It was one of the trends of the evening: sweeping dresses with a wide skirt or puffy trains. Model Cara Delevingne dominated in a rushing, cherry-red dress by Elie Saab; the actress Florence Pugh in a black and sand-colored (or champagne-colored?) dress with puffy sleeves by Valentino Couture and Tiffany necklace; and her colleague Monica Barbaro, also in a bichrome dress in turquoise with a burgundy train.

Monochrome and minimalist looks

That this train does not have to be so romantic, showed the actress Hong Chau, who was nominated as best supporting actress for "The Whale". She wore a slim, soft pink Prada dress that she had fitted around a traditional Mandarin collar – and surprised with a deep black sequined train. Without a doubt, one of the best looks of the evening.

Monochrome and minimalist looks were frequently seen this year: filmmaker Mindy Kaling showed up in a constructed white dress with long sleeves by Vera Wang, actress Jennifer Connelly in a black off-shoulder dress with sequined detail by Louis Vuitton, and Emily Blunt was also present in white, with bare shoulders and separate sleeves looking like operatic gloves.

Away from Flamboyanz

How creative men's outfits can be away from the classic black tuxedo without having to serve a flamboyant or feminine aesthetic was most impressively demonstrated by actor Harry Shum Jr.: He wore a white, midnight blue suit by Warren Alfie Baker and a midnight blue obi belt.

Paul Mescal, nominated for best actor, showed up in a seventies look, with Marlene trousers, an openly worn double-breasted white and a rose on the lapel. And, as so often, musicians in eye-catching looks were reliable: "Talking Heads" frontman David Byrne wore a white Jodhpuri suit, rock singer Lenny Kravitz a silk wrap shirt by Saint Laurent.
