Strong winds up to gale force are coming to Italy, affecting in particular Sardinia and the central-northern regions. Based on the available forecasts, the Department of Civil Protection in agreement with the regions involved has issued a warning of adverse weather conditions.

The warning foresees from the early hours of tomorrow, Tuesday 14 March, strong to gale force winds, with gusts up to strong gale, from the north-western quadrants on Sardinia and from the south-western ones on the Marche and on the Apennine areas of Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany and Umbria.

Storm surges are reported along the exposed coasts of Sardinia. On the basis of the expected phenomena, for tomorrow, Tuesday 14 March, on the basis of the expected phenomena, a yellow alert was assessed in Umbria, on large sectors of Abruzzo and on part of Calabria, Emilia-Romagna, Lombardy, Tuscany and Basilicata.

The passage over the Mediterranean Basin of an area of low pressure of Atlantic origin, will determine already from the early hours of tomorrow a progressive intensification of the winds that will continue to affect our country also on Wednesday. Strong winds will be recorded starting from Sardinia and the central-northern regions. On the basis of the available forecasts, the Department of Civil Protection in agreement with the regions involved - which are responsible for activating the civil protection systems in the territories concerned - has issued a warning of adverse weather conditions.

The weather phenomena, impacting on the different areas of the country, could determine hydrogeological and hydraulic criticalities that are reported, in a national summary, in the national bulletin of criticality and alert available on the website of the Department (www.protezionecivile.gov.it).

Storm surges are reported along the exposed coasts of Sardinia: from tomorrow at noon and for the next 24 hours the island will be hit by strong winds and storm surges. Winds are expected from the West, North-West to Storm on the northern coasts, mainly on those of Gallura and the eastern ridges. Possible storm surges along the exposed northern coasts.

Information on regional alert levels, on specific critical issues that could affect individual territories and on the prevention actions adopted are managed by the territorial civil protection structures, in contact with which the Department will follow the evolution of the situation.
