Several hundred cattle were withdrawn this Friday from a farm in Vatteville-la-Rue, (Seine-Maritime). The operation was carried out by the veterinary services of the Departmental Directorate for the Protection of Populations (DDPP) and the gendarmerie, with the support of the Brigitte Bardot Foundation (FBB). The herd was composed of many pregnant cows and calves, says France 3 Normandie. These animals were "in great suffering" and "very thin," the foundation said.

On Tuesday, March 7, administrative control operations were carried out on the farm. The veterinary services had been struck by the conditions and living conditions of cattle, which were incompatible with their physiological needs. They had noted in particular a "lack of watering" and a "lack of quality food," said a statement from the prefecture.

Some animals had "pathologies demonstrating an obvious lack of care". Several bodies were found at the site and one animal had to be euthanized. The evacuated cattle were handed over to FBB and placed on partner farms against payment of a pension.
