When commercial agencies turn into a safe haven. Ilévia, manager of public transport in the Lille metropolis, announces, on Monday, the deployment of a support system for victims of street harassment. Angela – that's the name of the device – is a password that alerts the agents of Ilevia when you are bothered in the public space. Just say this code name to get the right support.

Set up in November, only in the Ilévia agencies in Lille (Lille Flandres station, Place des Buisses and République Beaux-Arts), the Angela system will be extended to all seven commercial agencies of the network to fight against gender-based violence in public places.

Immediate shelter

"Any victim of harassment is immediately sheltered and supported," says Ilévia, in a statement. Our agents are then responsible for notifying the transport police, which is responsible for accompanying the victim in the complaint procedure, if desired. »

The experiment seems to have borne fruit, but Ilévia does not provide any figures on the use of the device so far. "It is also possible to report facts from the kiosks calling for help or to the Ilévia staff," says the public service delegate who advises, however, to call the 17, in case of emergency.

Angela Information Stand

To learn more about the Angela system, an information stand will be set up at the Ilévia de Tourcoing sales agency, at the Tourcoing-centre metro station, on Friday 17 March, between 16 pm and 18 pm.
