Another tragedy at sea this time in Libyan waters, where a boat with 47 migrants on board was shipwrecked and for which an alarm had been launched for hours by the NGO Alarm Phone.

Thirty migrants missing and 17 people rescued. This is the balance according to the Italian Coast Guard.

"Many of the 47 people on board are missing" said Mediterranea Saving Humans, while the Alarm Phone specifies that "according to various sources, dozens of people drowned". Mediterranea had addermato that "the Italian authorities since yesterday had given instructions to merchant ships in the area, assuming the SAR coordination. But the merchant ships for 24 hours were limited to observing. The military ships operating in the area for Eunavformed and Irini have not been mobilized".

Last night, according to the Alarm Phone (which is an NGO created by a wide network of activists to alert rescues at sea), "contact had been lost" with the boat in a situation of "adverse weather conditions" and "dangerous situation".

Just a few hours before this new shipwreck, Sea Watch International wrote: "A nearby freighter is not equipped for rescue and has been ordered by the Italian authorities to wait for the Libyan Coast Guard, but they do not come. After calling the Libyan rescue center, they confirmed that they would not send a ship. When we reach the Italian National Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) again with the question of who will take over the coordination and responsibility of the people, the responsible officer hangs up. People need to be rescued now before more people die trying to get to safety."

Meanwhile, on Twitter Sergio Scandura (Radio Radicale) publishes a map, verified with OSINT (Open Source Intelligence, with the visualization of the ships that were present around the boat at the time of the sinking: the tanker Basilis L, the merchant ship Atlantic North and the merchant ship Kinling.

Scandura also reported that the Frontex Eagle1 plane got up from Lamezia Terme airport around 13.30 today to go to the area where the boat was located, practically between the Maltese and Libyan SAR (Search and Rescue) areas.

In addition, the journalist publishes a video that frames the boat in great difficulty and the merchant ships that try to shield it from the waves, but are unable to intervene.

The boat then capsized and the survivors were "rescued by a merchant ship," the Alarm Phone said in its latest tweet.
