A boat with 47 migrants for which an alarm had been raised in recent hours was shipwrecked: dozens of people drowned. This was reported by the Alarm Phone, the NGO that had indicated the emergency already 24 hours ago. The number of victims is not yet known.

The boat had been stranded off Libya due to rough seas. "We are shocked. According to several sources, dozens of people on this boat drowned. From 2.28 am, on March 11, the authorities were informed of the urgency and the dangerous situation". This is what we read in tweets published by Alarm Phone.

"From 2.28 am on March 11, the authorities were informed of the urgency and the dangerous situation. The Italian authorities deliberately delayed the rescue, leaving them to die." This was stated by the Alarm Phone, which since yesterday launched the alarm. "According to several sources - continues the NGO - dozens of people drowned on this boat".

A few hours before the new tweet the non-governmental organization had declared: "We lost contact with the 47 people more than 2 hours ago and we are very worried! The so-called Libyan coast guard told us that the Italian authorities would coordinate the rescue but do not give any information. People must be rescued and brought to safety in Europe now!"
