Phil Collins

is "a lot more immobile than he used to be", his

Genesis

bandmate

Mike Rutherford

has revealed .

The guitarist and bassist has made these statements on the BBC in an interview to promote his upcoming tour with

Mike + The Mechanics

, in which Phil Collins' son,

Nic

, will play drums

Collins

has experienced health problems since suffering a

spinal injury

in 2007, which damaged the vertebrae in her upper neck and caused nerve damage.

The injury has affected her ability to perform, and at the last

Genesis

concert in March 2022,

she performed while in a wheelchair

.

Speaking about Collins' condition, Rutherford said: "As you know, Phil is a bit... He's a lot more immobile than he used to be, which is a shame, but on tour he was in a good mood. "He's

fine

now at home, enjoying life.

He has worked very hard over the years.

I think he's enjoying his time at home."

When asked who was the better drummer, Phil Collins or his son, Rutherford said: "I always support fathers because I'm from this generation. Phil is the most amazing drummer, but Nic is also fantastic. Like his father, but a little different."

Nic also played drums for

Genesis

on their farewell tour, with Rutherford adding that "it was really nice to have the two of them together."

Collins has been unable to play the drums due to his health and in 2021

he "could barely hold a stick" in one hand

.

In September,

Genesis

sold a portion of its song assets to

Concord Music Group

, including the publishing rights and master recordings to much of Genesis's music.

According to the 'Wall Street Journal', the deal was valued at more than $300 million and will also include recordings of songs from Collins' entire solo career, such as 'In the Air Tonight', 'You'll Be In My Heart' ' and 'Against All Odds', and their popular covers of Diane & Annita's 'A Groovy Kind Of Love' and The Supremes' 'You Can't Hurry Love'.
