He escaped certain death after being lost for a month in the Amazon jungle

A man miraculously escaped death after getting lost in the Amazon for a month using worms as food, eluding all the ferocious and deadly creatures in the rainforest.

The man, nicknamed Jonathan Acosta, 30, went out hunting with friends in northern Bolivia when he separated from them and could not find his way home, leaving him lost for a month until a search team of friends and locals was able to find him.

Acosta had to collect and eat worms, collect rainwater, and hide from predators including black cheetahs for 31 days.

According to Acosta told Unitel TV: "He was very surprised when he was found, after a long absence: "It's unbelievable, I can't believe people kept searching for so long. I've eaten worms, I've eaten insects, you won't believe what I had to do to survive all the time. "I thank God very much, because he has given me new life."

During his time in the Amazon, Acosta's limited diet and drought caused him to lose 17 kg of weight. He also had a dislocated ankle but was still able to move limping. Acosta eventually noticed that a search team was 300 meters away a month after he was lost, limping and yelling at them.

Jonatan's brother, Horacio Acosta, told Bolivian newspaper Página Siete: "My brother told us that when he dislocated his ankle on the fourth day, he started to fear for his life." He only had one cartridge in his rifle and couldn't walk, and he thought no one would look for him anymore."

Speaking about the moment Jonathan was found, Horacio said: "A man came running to tell us that they had found my brother. It's a miracle." "Jonathan decided to give up hunting after his painful ordeal."

Meanwhile, the four friends who separated from Acosta last month will be questioned, police said.
