So far, 3,792 people have been certified as "earthquake-related deaths" who have died due to deterioration in physical condition due to prolonged evacuation, an increase of 6 from the same period last year.

The number of dead and missing people due to the Great East Japan Earthquake, including "earthquake-related deaths," is 22,215.

"Earthquake-related deaths" are recognized by a review committee established by local governments in the case of death due to aggravation of a chronic disease or deterioration of physical condition due to stress during evacuation life. Disaster condolence money will be paid.



According to NHK's interviews with the Reconstruction Agency and each prefecture, 3,792 people nationwide have been certified as "earthquake-related deaths" since the occurrence of the Great East Japan Earthquake.

▽Fukushima Prefecture had the highest number with 2,335,


followed by


▽Miyagi with 931,


▽Iwate with 470,


▽Ibaraki with 42,


▽Chiba with 4, and


▽Kanagawa and Nagano. 3 prefectures each,

▽ Saitama prefecture and Tokyo prefecture each have 1 person.

both increased from the same period last year.



More than 10 years after the earthquake, the number of deaths related to the earthquake is increasing, especially in Fukushima Prefecture. .



According to the National Police Agency,


15,900 people died in the earthquake and tsunami, and

2,523


people went missing.


The total number of missing persons is 22,215.
